live to see the day when a person of color would be elected President of the United States! I'm a boomer and remember, as a child, seeing the Berlin Wall being built; and the poignancy as family and friends were ripped apart! The Soviet Union finally collapsed of its own weight; I always thought that these events would occur. To have it all happen within a relative short period, and that I, and millions of others, could actually bear witness is a gift beyond price.
On the other hand the passage of prop.8 in California is a bitter reminder of how easily people can be led to strip their fellow human beings of civil rights; thousands protested in the streets, straight and gay, because they were driven to take a stand. I'm extremely proud of these brave souls; they remind us that if this can be done to one group of citizens in our nation then it can happen to any one of us.

Prop 8 was a tragedy, as was the same bill here in AZ.
Both were funded by and largely supported by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
I think it might be fun to start an initiative to strip LDS members from owning property in AZ, and another to bar the church from owning property in AZ. Since we know that we as a people aren't opposed to discrimination, why not expand who we're screwing?
