President Elect Obama,

Now that you have secured the highest office in the land, I feel I should offer my congratulations. You fought a good fight, kept mostly to the issues and did what no politician before you has been able to do with any real success; turned out the youth vote. I applaud you on your success.

I should be honest before we get to far into this sir, I am not part of your fan club, I was not a supporter of your run for office and I will probably be one of the more vocal members of the loyal opposition. That having been said, it was still one hell of a race and you should be proud of the job you did.

As the future unfolds you will no doubt be challenged in many ways. From foreign policy issues to domestic financial markets and the ever present War on terror, which I assume we will continue to fight in some manner, you will from time to time feel unsure of what needs to be done. All I and many Americans would ask of you during times like these is don't let it show. Don't let your indecision show on your face, in your words or in your actions. When we act we must act with confidence and you should act with the assurance that America is behind our new President whether we voted for him or not. That, President Elect Obama, is my promise to you, that I will be supportive.

I will be supportive right up to the point you even think of infringing on my rights or the rights of others in this, the greatest nation on God's green earth. The people that voted for you voted for change, well things were going pretty good for a lot of us before this change started. You would do well to remember that too. Not everyone in this country voted for you, in fact 47% did not, and when coupled with those that did not vote at all, closer to 70% did not vote for you. Some because they were simply too stupid to vote, others just didn't like the idea of either you or your policies. We are being honest here.

So as you begin to move this country toward the change that you believe is best for this country (and I do believe that your intentions are well and good if not misguided in my book) keep in mind that America is a nation of individuals who all have different ideas of success, failure and comfort. What may seem like a lot of money to some, is paltry to others. Not everyone in America needs to succeed at the same levels to feel accomplishment or to be happy. Others must obtain the very pinnacle of their chosen profession and have been so graced by God with the talents and abilities for that journey. It does not make us greedy, it does not make us better than any other, it simply is who we are. For those who need less for their personal happiness, such is their path and many of us only hope that you will respect us as you do them.

Theft is theft. Taking that which you did not earn to hand it someone else who also did not earn it may play well in old English lore, but makes no hero out of you, it is theft. Despite the badge of sheriff or President, that which is not earned is not appreciated.

But as I made clear in the opening statements of this open letter to my new President, we will not agree on many things. But it is on this issue alone that I will first voice my concern and attempt to educate you as you are so apt of trying to educate others.

President Elect Obama, I wish all the best in your new endeavor. May God bless you and may God bless America.
